RCG Inside

International trainees at RCG

The Rail Cargo Group has for several years been offering motivated university graduates with a good degree the opportunity within a trainee program through job rotation to gain an optimal insight into the various areas of the company, to recognize their potential and thus grow into a perfect working life. This year, the circle of trainees is more international than ever before.

We were able to acquire nine high potentials from selected colleges and universities in six different countries – Germany, Italy, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia. Since September 2017, the young colleagues have been familiarising themselves with the world of rail logistics. This year’s focus is on logistics, sales and rail operations. And the training is also international – our trainees learn and work alternately in one of six RCG country subsidiaries. After successful completion of the programme, trainees can get off to a flying start in one of our more than 50 international branch offices.

Experience through variety

Each of our trainees spent the first four months at a subsidiary of the Rail Cargo Group where they gained insight into the operation of RCG’s service providers and international logistics service companies. Since January, they have been learning about the core business and processes at head office in Vienna. All trainees are called upon to make an active contribution in the areas of sales, service design, service delivery and group staff functions such as human resources and FRC, to work on projects and to further deepen their existing knowledge. Working with Austrian colleagues is challenging for both sides, as some of the trainees only speak English. Language courses in German and English, project management training, training for working in multicultural teams and visits to RCG and customer locations round off the programme. After their stay in Austria, the trainees return to their branch office where the last rotation cycle is mainly concerned with finding a suitable field of work for the takeover.

An attractive employer for top employees

Most of the young graduates completed studies with a focus on logistics; within the framework of the trainee programme, they acquire industry knowledge and know-how about internal processes. In addition, they are given the opportunity to discover their strengths and gain an understanding of the market and customers. These are the best prerequisites for success in a large, internationally active group. With its trainee programme, RCG offers an attractive programme for beginners, thus obtaining top employees. The trainees’ first experiences and impressions speak for themselves:

Sean Miller (Trainee RCC-PCT Deutschland)

„I like that it is customized to our needs and wants, and I like the rotation in Austria with the opportunities to network and learn more about the whole company.”

Kristjan Rus (Trainee RCC-Slovenia)

„Best thing about the trainee program is meeting new people from different nationalities and cultures. Furthermore it is an amazing opportunity to gain precious working experience and learn about new things, about rail transport logistics and of course about Rail Cargo Group.”

Gergely Iváncsics (Trainee RCH)

“I have been interested in the railways for a long time and have always wanted to work in this field. To fulfil this dream, RCG’s trainee programme proved to be the best option.”

Attila Horváth (Trainee RCH)

„Working with professional is the best part of my job. I have my own project, and I like to cooperate with my team. In our office I also can use both my language skills.”

Matej Vondruska (Trainee RCL-CZ)

“As part of the trainee programme, I have the opportunity to get to know various branches and departments of the company, meet many colleagues of different nationalities, participate in interesting courses, seminars and projects and thus gain an insight into the entire company.”

Giovanna Deodato (Trainee RCC Italien)

„I applied for the RCG trainee program, because I would have liked both – to live an international experience and to start working with transport. The RCG trainee program from this point of view was actually the perfect opportunity.”

Luka Širić (Trainee RCL-Croatia)

„During the next months I expect to learn more about the way how Rail Cargo Group operates and this experience should spread my horizons in the way we observe our business, especially in the field of Sales in Logistics.”

Sándor Borsos (Trainee RCH)

„Every day I meet new people and get in touch with them, which is very exciting for me. I like it very much.”

Irfan Muhammad (Trainee RCC Italien)

I like to be involved into big projects of RCG, to face challenges efficiently and I’m looking forward solving big problems of the rail freight sector for the future.
