Our contribution to a green RCG: a space for green ideas

Our colleagues in Záhony have made sustainability part of their daily office life. Their “Green Corner” is a space they have dedicated to health and the environment. As part of our “Green RCG” series, we are revealing how staff at the Rail Cargo Group play an active role in protecting the climate.

At the Rail Cargo Hungaria headquarters in Záhony, the “Green Corner” makes it clear that staff are committed to creating a sustainable future. On top of that, recycling also means a lot to our colleagues.

The idea was first introduced at the company’s premises in Ferencváros. “I was so excited about it that I also wanted to make it part of our site in Záhony. So, we got down to work together and started painting, cutting and laminating,” relays Tiborné Halász, Safety Expert at RCH Záhony.

The initiative aims to draw attention to topics relating to health and the environment and raise awareness about sustainability. Staff can find information about international days of action and themed days, for instance – like Earth Day or Car-Free Day.

The Green Corner also has a space for recycling. The headquarters didn’t used to have any kind of infrastructure in place for getting rid of plastic bottles; some colleagues were even taking their waste home with them and handing it over to their local Council for disposal. A new plastic bottle compactor now rings in the era of recycling: it has also been placed in the “Green Corner”, where everyone can access it easily. It stands next to a bottle bank that people can throw their compacted plastic bottles into. The bottle caps are collected separately and donated to charity.

Headquarters manager Sándor Balogh is proud of these green community projects: “Sustainability means a lot to me because we want to preserve the Earth for future generations. We are pleased that our activities are contributing to this.”
