The end of our train tracks doesn’t usually mean the end of the road for the goods we’re carrying. They often travel the last kilometres to their destination by truck or continue by ocean or air freight. The interface of the intermodal transportation chain, connecting rail with the road: presenting our terminals.
This is where we take care of handling containers, where we make any repairs and handle all necessary customs formalities. Our terminals are located at central junctions and key international economic hubs – wherever the goods we’ve been entrusted with need professional assistance and monitoring when they’re being transferred.
The wheels never stop turning at our terminals
This is where we coordinate the cooperation between all partners involved in intermodal transport: whether forwarders, carriers or operators, railway undertakings or shipping companies – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We’re your one-stop shop for everything from handling containers, swap bodies as well as road semi-trailers for various loading units through to the pick-up and delivery of trains and wagon groups.
A day at Rail Cargo Terminal - BILK
On an average day, RCT - BILK in Budapest (the hub for combined goods transport to Western and Southeast Europe and the region’s leading logistics centre) handles over 500 trucks and at least 10 trains. Each year, our team handles over 100,000 containers. The staff and asset capacity is continuously adapted to meet current demands, with road traffic being heavier in the morning and rail traffic at night. It’s thanks to the vast know-how and the tried and tested processes of the staff on the one hand and the efficient cooperation with other RCG subsidiaries on the other that makes these processes run so smoothly. “We’re proud to be the frontrunner nationwide when it comes to quick and efficient customer support“, Péter Kovácsvölgyi, Operational Director at Rail Cargo Terminal - BILK, proudly states.
Great interest in processes at the Terminal
Prior to the pandemic, school groups, authorities or customers, as well as even domestic and international partners visited the Terminal up to three times a week for an up-close look at the terminal staff’s daily work. It has even been visited by a delegation from India, including the son of a Maharajah, who was excited to try out the technologies at the Terminal and made some fantastic memories.
