MOBILER: Flexible Freight Transport by Road and Rail

28. 05. 2025

What if loading freight onto a train didn’t require a crane, a siding, or a full terminal? That’s exactly what the MOBILER makes possible. This smart system connects road and rail quickly, flexibly and without the need for costly infrastructure. It opens up new opportunities for companies to transport their goods more efficiently and sustainably.

Whether it's building materials, industrial waste or recyclables – not every loading or unloading point is close to a rail terminal. The Rail Cargo Group’s (RCG) MOBILER bridges this gap and creates a seamless connection between road and rail. Containers can be loaded and unloaded exactly where they’re needed – no expensive infrastructure required. This gives companies without their own rail siding entirely new logistics options.

No crane? No problem.

At the heart of the system is a hydraulic lifting device mounted directly on the MOBILER truck. This allows a single person to safely and efficiently transfer MOBILER containers between truck and rail wagon – with no additional equipment and no terminal. Even locations without direct rail access become part of the rail logistics network.

Three components – endless possibilities

The MOBILER system is based on the perfect interaction of three components: the MOBILER container, the specially equipped MOBILER truck, and the Sggmrrss-y wagon. Together, they enable fast and efficient transfer between road and rail – lowering costs and reducing the carbon footprint.

What’s behind the wagon’s long name?

  • S stands for a bogie flat wagon
  • gg means it can carry containers over 60 feet long
  • m refers to its extended loading length of at least 27 metres
  • rr indicates it’s a multi-unit design
  • ss means it can run at speeds of up to 120 km/h
  • -y indicates that the wagon is equipped with a MOBILER sheet.

Why the MOBILER just makes sense

  • It’s flexible: You don’t need special infrastructure. If there’s a rail connection nearby, the MOBILER makes it work.
  • It’s efficient: Less waiting, fewer handovers, and fewer trucks on a long distance.
  • It’s sustainable: More freight on rail means fewer emissions and less congestion—good for business, great for the planet.

The different MOBILER types

MOBILER Halftainer 30 ft.

With a payload of 28.9 tonnes, the 30ft. MOBILER Halftainer can efficiently transport various bulk materials such as waste glass, slag or industrial salt.

MOBILER Multitainer 30 ft.

The all-rounder among containers and an RCG innovation. The 30-foot MOBILER Multitainer, with a payload capacity of 31.5 tonnes, combines, for example, baled waste with heavy bulk goods.

MOBILER bulk box

The MOBILER bulk box offers a payload of 28.2 tonnes and is particularly suitable for transporting waste glass, grain, wood chips and scrap.

MOBILER-BIO grain container

With the MOBILER, transports are handled both environmentally consciously and effectively.

MOBILER – in a nutshell

What is the MOBILER system?
The MOBILER system is an innovative logistics solution that enables seamless container transfer between trucks and trains without the need for a direct rail connection at the customer's site.

How does the MOBILER system facilitate container handling?
Utilizing a special container sliding mechanism, the MOBILER system allows a single operator to transfer containers between trucks and railway wagons quickly and easily, without requiring external assistance or complex terminal equipment.

What are the components of the MOBILER system?
The system comprises three main components: the MOBILER container, the MOBILER truck, and the Sggmrrss-y wagon, which work together to enable efficient multimodal transport.
